​Brother Randy Benedict, age 49, of Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Fire & Emergency Services, Portsmouth District was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer last August 2005. Randy is a 17 1/2 year veteran of the Federal Fire Service.The majority of his service was at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, until 4 years ago, when he was promoted to Lieutenant and transferred to Navy Medical Center Portsmouth, Va. Randy loved the fire department and enjoyed making improvements around the station to make life better for fellow firefighters. He was married and had two daughters and three grandchildren.
